SAMe is a nutrient that carries and donates methyl molecules necessary to facilitate the manufacture of DNA and brain neurotransmitters and boosts hepatic levels of the antioxidant glutamine. It is formed in the body by an enzymatic reaction between adenosine-triphosphate (ADP) and methionine. SAMe works closely with folic acid and vitamin B-12 and functions as a methyl donor for the manufacturing of phosphatidylcholine and L-cystein both necessary for maintaining liver health. SAMe levels are greatly reduced in the elderly and supplementation can be very beneficial. SAMe contains antioxidants that help reduce oxygen free radicals. SAMe is used for mood support and healthy liver functions. Provides nutritional support for the liver and helps return normal liver function.*
How much SAMe should I give my dog?
For small dogs under 20 lbs give 1/2 tablet per day on an empty stomach. If you cut the tablet in half you should throw away the second half. Once you cut the enteric coating it loses bioavailability and loses stability.
For medium sized dogs 21 lbs to 40 lbs give 1 tablet per day.
For large dogs 41 lbs to 80 lbs give 2 tablets per day.
For very large dogs over 80 lbs give 3-4 tablets per day.
Our SAMe is packaged with nitrogen. This reduces the oxygen content in the package which helps prevent the breakdown of the product and makes it stay fresh longer. This helps prevent oxidation.
You may also want to consider milk thistle for liver support. SAMe and Milk Thistle are often used together.
